Buddhism holds that truth is truth, no matter what title or religious affiliation you may have. To clarify the Buddhist’s point of view, it’s like the parable of the blind men and the elephant. This parable is told many different ways, but the gist of it is this: Three blind men were introduced to an elephant and were helped to “see” it by feel. One felt the elephant’s leg. Another felt the elephant’s tail. The third felt the elephant’s side. When asked to describe an elephant, the first said that an elephant is like a tree trunk. The second said that it is like a rope. And the third said it is like a great wall. The point of this story is that all three blind men were correct in their perception of what an elephant is like. Yet, by using their descriptions, no one who had never seen an elephant before could ever identify one.
It is somewhat the same with religion or philosophy. People get so close to their beliefs that they can’t see the whole or entirety of life and how to live it. Most of the commonly held religious beliefs or philosophies have an undeniable element of truth within them, yet none, other than Buddhism, are capable of “seeing” the whole truth of life.

Do any of us really want the truth?
by Qcmbr ini've been reading some essays concerning disagreement online that got me thinking - i won't even attempt to do them justice but to share some ideas that struck home to me.
we spend most of the time here sharing ideas and thoughts often in response to other posts and as arguements to invalidate or re-colour what someone else said.
there is an implicit drive behind each thread to somehow approximate a 'truth' from the many different viewpoints - almost like a collective conscience ('the forum') weighing and then selecting or rejecting the mood of the thread and as we share in the posts we add just a little weight and influence to its direction.

Cell Phone Shockers
by Shakita ini have to tell all of you here about the shocking thing that i have witnessed at my place of employment.
let me say that i own a cell phone and i don't have a problem using it.
but there has to be some common sense guidelines about where and when a cell phone should not be used.

I think the most annoying....well outside of those people pooping and chatting......movie cell phone calls.
The conversation usually goes something like this:
"Um, hello.....
No, I'm at the movie theater right.....
No, I can't talk....I'm in the movie right now.....
No, it's on right now....I'll call you back in a little bit....
No, really......I gotta go......
You're kidding?!? Ok....I'll call you in a bit.....
Oh, I don't know maybe another hour or so.....
Ok.....Ok.....yeah.....gotta go.....ok......talk to you in a bit......ok....bye"
Pisses me off to no end. If you left the cell phone on hit the mute button which sends them to voice mail. Jesus people! I don't know when people decided that just because a phone rings you are under some obligation to answer it. I probably don't answer 1/2 my phone calls because I don't feel like talking, watching TV, or spending time with a friend. I can call these people back. I don't need to drop everything I'm doing to be a slave to the phone.
Once upon a time it was cool and chic to have a cell phone. It meant you probably were important. Now it means you are simply self-important. I've decided that the new fad is to have someone carry your cell phone for you, or not carry one at all. This is the newest fad which shows how important you are. I am so important I don't need to be tethered to a phone 24/7.
